"Could be a valuable asset" - Former Red implies that Liverpool should sign forward

Former Liverpool goalkeeper David James has implied that the Reds should make a move for Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford.

It has been reported that Liverpool are interested in the Englishman. With that being the case, James believes that Rashford would be a "valuable asset" for the Reds if they were to sign him.

The 24-year-old's contract expires in the summer of 2023.

James told GGRecon: “Age-wise, he’s young enough now that if he had to move somewhere else before going to Liverpool, in some kind of long-term plan, then it could happen. However, because of the age he is now, now would be the time to get him. Marcus Rashford is a tremendously underused resource with Manchester United.

“In a theoretical world, if you took the rivalry out of the equation, I would snap him up straight away. I think he could be a valuable asset to Liverpool.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

Rashford is a Manchester United academy product. The forward is very much a Red Devil through and through.

Therefore, there is no way that we could see Liverpool and Manchester United reaching an agreement in regards to a transfer for Rashford.

Both clubs hate each other. Also, we can't see a world where the Englishman would agree to play for the Reds.

There is no way you can take the rivalry out of this particular transfer. We fully expect Rashford to play the majority of his career at Manchester United.

But, only time will tell where the 24-year-old's long-term future lies.

On another note, it will be interesting to see what Liverpool do during the summer transfer window. The Reds are a top side these days, so we do expect the club to sign a couple of quality players.
