Cody Gakpo loving life at 'amazing' Liverpool after one year at Anfield

It's been a year since Liverpool announced the signing of Cody Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven.

Joining off the back of a stellar World Cup campaign with the Netherlands in 2022, it was a move that came seemingly out of nowhere - in a fashion similar to that of Fabinho's transfer four and a half years prior.

And while being roundly surprised at his addition, Liverpool fans were hardly going to complain at the sight of Gakpo in a Reds shirt, having snatched yet another transfer target from under the nose of arch-rivals Manchester United.

Twelve months, 50 appearances and 14 goals later, Jurgen Klopp will be satisfied with the Dutchman's first year at Anfield - becoming a reliable option in Liverpool's stacked attack.

Feeling completely settled on Merseyside, Gakpo similarly has no regrets about his move - hailing the fans for all the support he's received in his first year.

"I really feel at home and I think the club is amazing," Gakpo told the club's official website. "It's like a big family.

"The supporters are amazing every game and show love to all of us. I appreciate it and I love being here.

"I think it always takes some time for every player in a new place to settle a little bit but I felt [at] home quite fast.

"It's an amazing club and hopefully many more beautiful moments will come for me and for the team."

Gakpo joined the club at a difficult time, having slumped down the table in what was unarguably Klopp's worst start to a season since taking over in 2015.

However, after a productive summer which saw the successful rebuild of the Liverpool's midfield, the Reds are back vying for trophies - sitting top of the league at the halfway point of the campaign, while also having a League Cup semi-final to look forward to.

After enduring early adversity, Gakpo is ready to get a true taste of success at Anfield.

"I hope to achieve a lot," he added. "On a personal level as well, but as a team we have big dreams and big goals.

"We are working on that. I think we are doing really good from the beginning of the season and we have a good group."
