Dutch legend Clarence Seedorf has dismissed comparisons between himself and new Liverpool signing Ryan Gravenberch, but said the young star has his 'own destiny'.

21-year-old Gravenberch became the Reds' fourth midfield arrival of the summer, joining from Bayern Munich in a £34m deal on Deadline Day.

The young midfielder had been on Liverpool's radar since his Ajax days, when he won individual awards like Eredivisie Talent of the Year and the Johan Cruyff Trophy in 2021.

His physicality, style of play and ability to feature in a variety of different roles has drawn comparisons with a host of top players, from Liverpool legend Gini Wijnaldum to former AC Milan and Real Madrid star Seedorf.

Back in 2018, it was Seedorf's record Gravenberch broke when he became Ajax's youngest ever player in the Dutch top flight at just 16 years and 242 days old.

Addressing the comparisons, Seedorf said that Liverpool's number 38 can have a 'great career' but stressed that he is his own man.

The four-time Champions League winner told FUTBin: "Everybody is unique, Ryan started early, he is one who broke my record at Ajax as the youngest player to make his debut that comes with great responsibility.

"He's on the way, I believe in him, I think he can make a great career. Just let him take his path, everyone has their own destiny."

Gravenberch has been afforded a relatively gentle start to life as a Liverpool player, and has played just 14 minutes of Premier League action so far.

The 11-cap Netherlands international made late cameos in the Premier League wins over Wolves and West Ham this month, while he started – and got an assist – in the Europa League victory against LASK.
