Federico Chiesa has spoken to the media for the first time as a Liverpool player, having completed his move to Anfield earlier today.

The winger penned a deal for a fee of £10m, rising to a potential £12.5m should the Reds succeed this season.

Chiesa netted 10 goals in 37 appearances across all competitions for Juventus in 2023/24 as the Italian side ensured UEFA Champions League football for another campaign.

“I'm so happy to be a Liverpool player” Chiesa declared. “When Richard Hughes called me and he said, 'Do you want to join Liverpool?' – and the coach called me – I said yes immediately because I know the history of this club, I know what it represents to the fans.”

“So, I'm so happy and I can't wait to get started.”

Speaking on playing in front of the Kop and its electric atmosphere, the Italy international stated: "I saw Anfield and as soon as I saw Anfield I said to my wife, 'Put the song on – You'll Never Walk Alone – because I want to imagine myself playing there and hearing the chant of the fans. It was just a fun bit.”

On his Anfield debut, Chiesa stated that “I will have shivers and it will be so emotional for me and for my family."

When could we see Chiesa in a Liverpool shirt?

Whilst it is yet to be seen whether Chiesa will feature in Liverpool’s trip to Old Trafford this weekend, it is likely he will make his Anfield debut after the international break on September 14th for the visit of Nottingham Forest.

Chiesa will don the number 14 shirt for the Reds this season, a number most recently worn by ex- skipper Jordan Henderson.
