Chelsea vs Liverpool - Carabao Cup final predictions

Liverpool have the opportunity to win an eighth piece of silverware under Jurgen Klopp this Sunday as they travel to Wembley for the Carabao Cup final.

The Reds, as they did two years ago, will face Chelsea in a colossal showdown in the capital, with Liverpool travelling down south as favourites.

Jurgen Klopp's men drew with the Blues on the opening day of the season, but thrashed them 4-1 at Anfield in the most recent meeting at the end of January.

A similar result would be more than welcome, but history suggests it will be a tight and nerve-wracking affair this Sunday.

With an injury-hit Liverpool able to claim a tenth League Cup this weekend, here is how Anfield Watch's writers think the match might play out.

Ewan Ross-Murray: No matter the opponent, no matter their form, no matter their quality, a final at Wembley is always a nerve-jangling experience.

Sunday is no different and Liverpool's extensive injury list only throws victory into further doubt. Team the Reds' absentees with an improvement in Chelsea's recent form and there's understandable reason for caution ahead of the big day.

However, for once in my life, I'm choosing to be positive about Liverpool's chances here.

The Reds have still only lost four games all season and absolutely trounced Chelsea several weeks ago on Merseyside. Even with injuries, Liverpool still have a strong defensive unit available, while they are managing to score plenty of goals despite missing forwards.

Plus, Chelsea are Chelsea - brilliant one weekend but utterly hopeless the next.

It may not be pretty, it may not be comfortable, but I'm going for a Liverpool win.

Andy Headspeath: The first and, let's face it, least important part of the quadruple is upon us, like a sort of end of level 1 stage boss.

Win and morale gets a boost ahead of the run-in, Klopp gets another trophy and the dream stays alive. Lose and, well it'll sting, but it's far from the end of the world.

Liverpool should be heavy favourites have given Chelsea a shoeing only last month, but the frankly absurd injury crisis has levelled the playing field somewhat.

The Reds have shown recently that they have enough goals in them even with their best and most creative players out of action, but still it'd be a whole lot nicer if at least Salah and Nunez were definitely fit, especially as Pochettino's side appear to be in better form of late.

Daryl Finch: With Liverpool most likely lacking their regular marksmen up front, and Chelsea expected to try and sit back and hit us on the counter, I can see it being yet another dull affair with the Blues being tough to break down.

If it goes to extra time again, a lot will depend on what Klopp has in reserve off the bench to try and capitalise on those tired Chelsea legs (let’s not forget they’re low on options too).

But the Reds have shown a lot of character this season. I can see us nicking it before it goes to penalties with two in extra time.
