Chelsea stance on Levi Colwill as Liverpool could look to exploit angle

Chelsea will outright refuse the sale of Levi Colwill, though Liverpool could look to tempt the defender by offering to play him in his preferred role.

Anfield Watch has been informed that the England international is not available for purchase and the Blues are remaining steadfast in their position.

Colwill was the subject of interest from Liverpool during the summer window, while recent reports claim the Reds are still keen on the defender, despite the 20-year-old signing a contract extension until 2029.

Sources tell Anfield Watch that the London club will not entertain any offers for their player, intending to keep him in their ranks for the foreseeable future.

While Chelsea remains resolute in their stance that Colwill is not for sale, there is a sense that the situation could change, if circumstances fail to improve.

It's thought that if Colwill continues to be used out of his natural position at left-back, there is a chance that Jurgen Klopp's side may look to exploit that by offering a role at Anfield in central defence.

The former Brighton loanee has played in all 20 of Chelsea's Premier League games so far in 2023/24 – while 14 of those appearances have been on the left side of the defence.

Colwill's happiness at Stamford Bridge could be further affected if he were to miss out on major tournaments, such as the Euros, due to a lack of playing time at centre-back at club level.

Furthermore, if Chelsea fail to secure European competition qualification, it might add an element of uncertainty to Colwill's position at Stamford Bridge.

Despite this, Chelsea have placed Colwill in the 'not for sale category' even with potential Financial Fair Play (FFP) concerns.

Liverpool have been linked with a host of other names, regarding defensive targets this year.

Ousmane Diomande of Sporting CP is one player recently mentioned. It is understood that the Ivory Coast international will not be allowed to leave for below his release clause (around £69m), while a January move is highly unlikely due to his participation on the Africa Cup of Nations in his homeland this month.
