Sunday's Carabao Cup final was a fiercely contested game between two great rivals. And while, ultimately, there was an outpouring of joy for the red side of Wembley, those in blue experienced quite different emotions.

The West Londoners' hopes of clinching the cup were dashed in the dying minutes of extra time when Virgil Van Dijk's header sealed a 1-0 victory for Liverpool.

After 120 minutes of football at Wembley, emotions were clearly still running high as Chelsea midfielder and one-time Liverpool target Enzo Fernandez found himself at the centre of an exchange with a Liverpool fan which has since gone viral.

As the defeated Chelsea squad trudged up the stairs to receive their runners-up medals, they were met with taunts and jeers from jubilant Liverpool supporters in the stands. Among the Chelsea players, Enzo Fernandez and his teammate Mykhailo Mudryk found themselves being targeted by mischievous rival fans.

While Mudryk opted to ignore any provocation, Fernandez, visibly agitated, couldn't contain his emotions.

One Liverpool fan singled him out, sarcastically remarking, "Enzo, unlucky lad," before bursting out into laughter.

This prompted a heated reaction from the Argentinian, who stopped climbing the steps to glare back at the fan.

One of Fernandez's teammates, Jimi Tauriainen, then intervened, urging him to continue walking up the stairs to prevent any potential escalation.

A bad run for the Blues

Since choosing Chelsea over Liverpool in January 2023, the Argentinian hasn't had the best of times at Stamford Bridge since his British-record £107-million move.

Sunday's clash offered the former Benfica star his first opportunity for silverware with the Blues, but it ultimately wasn't to be.

This defeat marked the sixth consecutive loss for Chelsea in domestic cup finals.
