Caoimhin Kelleher warned he's WASTING his career at Liverpool

The Caoimhin Kelleher saga is rearing its head again this season with the Irish international desperate to play more football.

Kelleher hasn’t hidden his intentions. He will turn 26 next month and, whilst goalkeeper careers can last longer than outfield players, that is the age where a player needs to be playing consistently if he is serious about success.

And, realistically, Kelleher deserves it too. His performances between the sticks for Liverpool last year were nothing short of admirable, and he has taken another step up when called in to deputise for Alisson again this season.

He also was a shining light in an otherwise dismal Republic of Ireland display against England during the last international break.

With Alisson injuring his hamstring late on in Liverpool’s last match against Crystal Palace, Kelleher is seemingly facing another stretch of starts as Liverpool get into an intense period of games.

But if Kelleher is going to leave in the summer, talkSPORT’s Alex Crook is reporting that it will cost any team £30m to secure his services.

This is up from Liverpool’s £25m valuation in the summer when they knocked back a bid from Nottingham Forest for Kelleher.

Shay Given delivers Kelleher warning

Legendary Irish goalkeeper Shay Given has been talking about his compatriot too. Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live’s Monday Night Club, Given said:

“The summer was the best time for Caoimhin to move on and show everyone he is good enough… He is going to be back in the team now for sure – I think Alisson will be out for a few weeks – so he has got an opportunity again.

“But, at the same time, Caoimhin is 26 years old in November. He isn’t getting any younger. Each game that goes by where he doesn’t play, he will never get back.

“He has only got one career, one life and one opportunity at being a top goalkeeper.”

Kelleher is on the record saying he wants to play every week. But with the incoming of Giorgi Mamardashvili, it seems like that won’t be at Liverpool.
