'One of the best ever' - Caoimhin Kelleher hails star Liverpool teammate
Caoimhin Kelleher has said that his teammate Alisson Becker is 'one of the best' there has ever been and that he is grateful to work with such an exceptional goalkeeper.
Kelleher has seen regular minutes over the past couple of months having stepped in for the injured Alisson, with the Irishman impressing for the Reds despite some previous criticism of his displays.
The 25-year-old has been in fantastic form for the Reds and has seldom put a foot wrong as Liverpool continue their hunt for a treble of trophies come the end of the season.
One of the reasons they already have one of those pieces of silverware - the Carabao Cup - in the bag is due to Kelleher's brilliance in the 1-0 victory over Chelsea at Wembley in late February.
The stopper has been a safe pair of hands for Jurgen Klopp's side and has clearly learnt a thing or two from his fellow goalkeeper Alisson over the past few seasons.
CAOIMHIN KELLEHER HAILS ASTOUNDING ALISSON
Alisson's recent hamstring injury - from which he is still some time away from returning - has opened the door for Kelleher to get some incredibly valuable minutes under his belt.
While Alisson still firmly remains Liverpool's first choice between the sticks, Kelleher has opened up on his excellent relationship with the 31-year-old.
"I think we have a strong goalkeeper unit at the club," said Kelleher. "It’s always been really good with Ali. We’ve been together a few years now so we know each other quite well.
"He’s always there to support me and I think the view of the whole goalkeeping unit is that they are always there to support the person who is playing.
"Ali’s one of the best in the world in my opinion, one of the best ever. As I say, I’ve trained with him for a good number of years and just being able to watch him and what he does in the games and how he handles situations is probably the best thing for me.
"Being able to watch him so closely and then trying to emulate him and try to do what he’s really good at is great for me. I try to practise those things hard and make sure I’m in good shape."
Alisson's impact has been clear on both the standard and nature of Kelleher's performances, with the Irish international having shone with his sweeping skills and sprawling saves in recent weeks.
With Alisson likely to be out for another month or so, Kelleher will need to maintain his terrific form.
