Calvin Ramsay secures loan move for second half of 2023/24 season
Calvin Ramsay has joined Bolton Wanderers on loan for the second half of the 2023/24 season after his loan with Preston North End was cut short.
Liverpool signed the young Scotsman for £6.5m in 2022 as the Reds sought a back-up to Trent Alexander-Arnold at right-back, but the former Aberdeen man had rotten luck with injuries during his first season at Anfield.
As a result, he rarely featured for the Reds, making just two appearances - one of which was a brief cameo against Napoli in the Champions League.
Ramsay was sent on loan to Championship side Preston last summer, but was again the victim of bad fortune in terms of injuries, only featuring twice for the club.
The 20-year-old saw his loan cut short despite regaining his fitness and has now been sent to develop at League One side Bolton for the remainder of the campaign.
Liverpool's decision to trust Wanderers with the youngster may have been influenced by the impressive loan spell that Conor Bradley enjoyed at the Toughsheet Community Stadium.
The Northern Ireland international won Bolton's Player of the Season award for the 2022/23 campaign and has been superb when called upon for Jurgen Klopp's side this term.
If he can stay fit, Ramsay is likely to be a guaranteed starter for the third tier side as they fight for promotion, currently sat just two points off league leaders Portsmouth.
Ramsay isn't the only prodigy that Liverpool have sent out on loan this winter, with Rhys Williams joining League One Port Vale and Fabio Carvalho teaming up with Tyler Morton at Hull City.
