Calvin Ramsay facing 'months' out after injury setback on loan
Young Liverpool right back Calvin Ramsay is facing 'another couple of months' on the sidelines, after picking up an injury during pre-season with Preston North End.
After an injury-troubled first year at Anfield, the 20-year-old right back joined Preston on loan for the 2023/24 campaign.
It was reported that the youngster picked up an injury during pre-season, though manager Ryan Lowe initially brushed off the knock as 'nothing serious'. However, speaking at his Thursday press conference, Lowe has now revealed that Ramsay is back at Liverpool for rehab and will likely be unavailable for another two months as he continues his recovery.
“He’s still out and probably will be for another couple of months,” Lowe told reporters on Thursday. “At the moment he’s back at Liverpool doing his rehab there. When he’s fit and ready, he’ll be back with us.”
That timeline suggests Ramsay may not feature for Preston until November.
The right back last made a competitive senior appearance in Liverpool's League Cup victory over Derby County in the same month of last year.
A serious knee injury ended Ramsay's maiden season with the Reds back in February, while he has also suffered with back issues since arriving from Aberdeen.
Ramsay is not the only young Liverpool right back with injury issues, Conor Bradley – who was expected to be Trent Alexander-Arnold's understudy this season – is also expected to miss much of the rest of 2023 with a back injury.
Meanwhile, Anfield Watch understands that the Reds are considering a move for AZ's versatile right back Yukinari Sugawara.
The 23-year-old can play right back or right wing and could be available for around €20m (£17m), with his contract set to expire in 2025.
