Burnley vs Liverpool - Predictions

Liverpool will be hoping to get back to winning ways as they make the trip to Turf Moor to face relegation-threatened Burnley on Boxing Day.

Two consecutive home draws against Manchester United and Arsenal, defined by Liverpool's recent struggle to put the ball in the net, have left fans in need of a Christmas time pick-up.

However, the Reds face the challenge of a Burnley side that are in high spirits despite their low league position, having just dispatched Fulham in a game that could prove crucial come the end of the season.

What will be of cause for concern will be Liverpool's questionable record against newly-promoted opposition this season, having only clawed a draw from Luton Town before producing an all but unconvincing win against rock-bottom Sheffield United.

If Liverpool want to seriously push for the title this season, it's these games that must be won - and after dropping points in recent games, there is very little room for error on Tuesday.

The Reds are in dire need of a win after two frustrating results against Manchester United and Arsenal - two games Jurgen Klopp will undoubtedly feel his side should have taken all three points from.

This seems like the perfect opportunity to get back to winning ways, given Burnley's league position and wider performance this campaign.

However, Liverpool will need to be at the races. As seen at Luton, we know how teams can turn it on when the big dogs come to town - and after picking up a massive win at Craven Cottage on Saturday, Burnley will be well up for it on Boxing Day.

It won't be comfortable, but I'm still hedging my bets on a Liverpool win.

Andy Headspeath: After taking just two points from the last six — regardless of the circumstances — Liverpool need to end the year with a win to show they are in this title race.

Last year, this would’ve represented exactly the sort of fixture in which the Reds would have struggled, but so far this season they’ve found a way to grind out wins on the road against the ‘smaller’ sides (Luton aside).

Klopp still needs more from his forwards, but Burnley’s dreadful home form suggests Liverpool should get this one over the line to cap off 2023 on a high.

Darwin Nunez was on the bench against Arsenal and has looked off-colour in recent weeks. However, a tricky away trip to Turf Moor is the perfect opportunity for the enigmatic Uruguayan striker to get himself on the scoresheet and establish himself as an undisputed starter.
