Bruno Guimaraes set for new Newcastle release clause amid Liverpool interest

Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes is in talks over a contract extension at St. James' Park.

The 25-year-old midfielder's current deal doesn't end until 2026, but Newcastle have been in talks with the Brazilian for months over a renewal amid interest from clubs including Liverpool.

Football Transfers claim that Liverpool offered £100m, including add-ons, for Bruno this summer, while Paris Saint-Germain made an even larger bid.

However, both proposals "were met with a firm no from Newcastle".

Newcastle are keen to keep hold of one of their star players with co-owner, Mehrdad Ghodoussi, "a huge fan" of the midfielder. However, Newcastle are anticipating more bids in 2024.

Football Transfers' report suggests that the Magpies may ultimately be powerless to stop Bruno leaving, owing to the fact that the subject of a release clause has been a key factor in the contract negotiations between player and club.

It is claimed that Bruno's new release clause, once new terms are signed, will sit somewhere between £100-150m – a pricey yet achievable figure for the world's richest clubs.

Liverpool saw a bid of £111m accepted by Brighton for midfielder Moises Caicedo last month, though the player ultimately held out for a move to Chelsea.

The Blues also paid a similar amount for Enzo Fernandez back in January, while Declan Rice swapped West Ham for Arsenal in a deal worth up to £105m.

While the money is likely there for big-money arrivals when deemed necessary, whether the Liverpool hierarchy choose to focus such investment on the midfield remains to be seen.

Liverpool brought in four midfielders this summer for a combined total of around £145m and Jurgen Klopp appeared to have completed the much-discussed 'rebuild' with the arrival of Ryan Gravenberch on Deadline Day.

Speaking on the Dutch youngster's transfer, Klopp said: "Ryan knows he has to improve things but that’s with 21, it would be crazy if not. But he is super-talented, he can drive the ball, he can be really a box-to-box threat.

"He has a good eye for a pass and a good pass. Really excited. It fits into our squad. I said before, we have a big challenge to reinvent pretty much one of the most successful midfields this club ever had, and I really like it.

"When I look now at the team, it’s a good football team, honestly. You can buy experienced players but experience you have to make together as a team and we will do that."

In terms of further midfield arrivals, Liverpool have also held an interest in Bruno's fellow Brazil international Andre Trindade, but Anfield Watch understands that the Reds are unlikely to pick up their interest in the 22-year-old this January as things stand.
