Liverpool stance on Bruno Guimaraes transfer revealed after Zubimendi blow
With Martin Zubimendi opting to turn down a move to Liverpool, attention has turned towards to potential alternatives.
The Reds had earmarked the Spain international in a £51million deal to bolster their defensive midfield options but suffered a setback earlier in the week when it was revealed that the Euro 2024 winner has decided to stay put with Real Sociedad.
This decision will no doubt serve as a blow to new head coach Arne Slot, who is yet to welcome a new signing since replacing Jurgen Klopp in the dugout, but the good news is there's still time before the transfer window closes to get some business completed.
In terms of Liverpool's possible alternatives to Zubimendi, it's worth mentioning they have extensively pursued Teun Koopmeiners who is familiar with Slot having played under him at AZ Alkmaar.
Having said that, one name doing the rounds recently is that of Newcastle United's Bruno Guimaraes. However, journalist James Pearce has revealed the Merseyside giants' stance on a possible deal.
Liverpool "have no interest" in Bruno
"Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimaraes has been touted as a possible alternative to Zubimendi - but senior Liverpool sources, kept anonymous to protect relationships, are adamant they have no interest in the Brazilian," Pearce wrote for The Athletic.
It's just as well that Liverpool have no plans to pursue a deal for the Brazilian, otherwise another rejection quite possibly would have been on the cards judging by what the 26-year-old has recently said about his future.
"I am here and never said I would like to leave. Since I signed I want to put my name in club history and nothing changes," he said, as per the Daily Mirror.
"This is not something I get involved in, it is with my agent. I don’t know anything about it… my focus is Newcastle and I am very happy."
