Brighton and Hove Albion vs Liverpool player ratings as Reds close gap on Manchester City

Liverpool defeated Brighton and Hove Albion 2-0 at the Amex Stadium this afternoon and here are our player ratings for the game.

Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool side have closed the gap on Manchester City once again after a comfortable win against Graham Potter's Brighton side.

Apart from the first 15 minutes and the last five minutes, Liverpool were in cruise control and it never looked like Brighton were going to score.

So with another three points in the bag, here are our player ratings for today's game.

Alisson - 7.5/10

Before the 80th minute, Alisson barely did anything. However, when the Brazilian was called upon he was magnificent.

He made an amazing great reflex save to stop Brighton from getting a goal back and he was also very assured around his penalty box when Albion piled on the pressure.

Trent Alexander-Arnold - 7/10

A pretty average performance from Trent Alexander-Arnold. He was solid defensively and the Scouser was putting in his trademark pinpoint crosses, which unfortunately no one could get on the end of today.

Joel Matip - 7.5/10

Joel Matip put in an amazing Trent-esque ball to set up the first goal for Liverpool today. After that, the Premier League Player of the Month was quite solid. He did make a few sloppy decisions during the last few minutes but that's his only criticism.

Virgil van Dijk - 7/10

Another average game for Virgil van Dijk. He didn't have much to do but when he was called upon, he showed his class.

Andy Robertson - 7/10

I feel like I'm repeating myself again, probably because I am. A decent performance from Andy Robertson and he's starting to form a great partnership with Luis Diaz on the left-hand side.

Fabinho - 6.5/10

A bit of a shaky game for Fabinho today. Brighton's attack pressured him a lot in the first half and he was forced to bring a few of their players down.

The Brazilian only completed 25 passes the whole 90 minutes and had a pass accuracy of 78%. Hopefully, this game was just a one-off for Klopp's 'Dyson'.

Jordan Henderson - 6.5/10

Similarly to Fabinho, Jordan Henderson did not have the impact that he would've hoped to of had. He was a passenger for the large majority of the game and was brought off for his vice-captain late on in the game.

Naby Keita - 8/10

Naby Keita had an unbelievable game today. He was involved in everything, attacking wise and defensively. The Guinea international also got Liverpool a penalty after he struck the ball against Yves Bissouma's hand.

Hopefully, Keita can keep performing at this level as he will be needed a lot more for the remaining games of this season.

Mohamed Salah - 6/10

Despite scoring Liverpool's second goal, Mohamed Salah had another poor game for the Reds. The Egyptian was snatching at chances all game and when there were better options, he usually kept the ball and didn't release it.

A great penalty as usual but his all-around game was not up to his usual standard.

Sadio Mane - 7.5/10

Sadio Mane is really starting to adapt well to his new position upfront. He's dropping deep and winning the ball back like he's Roberto Firmino.

However, compared to Bobby, Sadio still offers that penetrative force that we've associated Mane with in the past. He was also dribbling past the Brighton defenders like they weren't there.

Hopefully, this is a new side to the Senegalese international that Klopp can make the most out of.

Luis Diaz - 8.5/10

I mean WOW. What a game from Diaz. Even though it's only been two months since he signed, Liverpool looked to have got a bargain.

Even after nearly getting decapitated by Robert Sanchez after he scored, the Liverpool forward went on to produce an unbelievable display.

He ran Tariq Lamptey into the ground and was rightfully MOTM. If he keeps putting these performances in then the Liverpool front three are going to have to watch their back.

Substitutes

Diogo Jota (65 minutes for Mohamed Salah) - 7/10

A good 25 minute cameo from Diogo Jota. He came on and did what was asked of him, winning the ball back and helping out defensively.

Thiago Alcantara (65 minutes for Naby Keita) - 7/10

Thiago Alcantara came on and calmed Liverpool's midfield down a lot. He stopped the stray passes and was also creating promising attacks. A good 25 minute spell for the Spaniard.

James Milner (86th minute for Jordan Henderson) - N/A

Not much to say about James Milner's four minute game. He made two passes and completed 1/1 dribbles. Well done Jimbo.
