"Biggest challenge" - Rhys Williams on players returning to pre-season training
Liverpool youngster Rhys Williams has talked about the struggles of coming back to pre-season training after the break.
Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com, the right-back has spoken about how tough pre-season training has been so far.
“It has been tough. The lads have all come back really fit, so getting back into it has been hard. But by looking at everyone after sessions it has been hard for everyone – so at least I know I’m on the same wavelength as everyone else!" Williams said, as cited by Anfield Watch.
“From the start of the pre-season everything is 100 per cent, it’s all nearly as good as the main season itself. Everyone comes back as sharp as they can, so that’s the biggest challenge: coming back on the same level as everyone else.
“And making sure you’re in the right shape and you’re up to speed with the ability that everyone else is at.”
Anfield Watch Verdict
A normal pre-season must be difficult, but a Jurgen Klopp pre-season must be so exhausting after having a few weeks off.
Even when players are on holiday, you can see on their social media posts that they are still training to keep fitness levels up.
As a fan, it's great to see so many players take it seriously. Yes, footballers need to relax, but at the end of the day, it's only a short break and in that time you can't be getting drunk and eating junk food.
Their careers are short and they will have all the time in the world to do whatever they want once they retire.
Hopefully Williams can get up to speed and show Klopp what he is all about, because on his day he is a really good young player.
