Next Liverpool manager: Betting suspended on 39-year-old to join Reds
Noise around the next Liverpool manager continues to get louder as one company opts to suspend betting going forward.
Betfair have suspended betting on Ruben Amorim to become the next Liverpool manager. This comes as a ‘flurry of bets’ were made on Tuesday morning for the Sporting CP boss to take over at Anfield.
Amorim has been the strong favourite for the job ever since Xabi Alonso announced he was taking himself out of the race. He’d been in the running even alongside the Spaniard, but now finds himself considered the leading candidate.
That’s shown by Betfair having him at 1/5 for the job before suspending their betting.
Betfair spokesperson Sam Rosbottom had this to say in a press release:
“Punters seem convinced that Ruben Amorim is going to be the new Liverpool manager and Betfair has suspended betting on this market after the Sporting boss was heavily backed into 1/5 to take over at Anfield next season. The Reds are 23/10 to secure the Premier League title in Jurgen Klopp’s final season in charge, with Arsenal 7/4 and Man City 7/5 to retain the trophy.”
Time will tell if they’re correct in their judgement but all signs certainly point to Amorim taking over.
Ruben Amorim - next Liverpool manager?
The talk is certainly flowing on Tuesday. Sky Germany have even gone as far as saying a verbal agreement between Liverpool and Amorim is there.
Though, it should be said that Sky Sports in England have refuted that, claiming Liverpool sources told them nothing was agreed.
But talk is quickly gathering pace and suggestions across Europe are that the likes of Bayern Munich and Barcelona are looking elsewhere. Liverpool are the main contenders for Amorim, who is widely expected to leave Sporting this summer - if they want him, he’s almost certainly theirs.
Again, time will tell but it would be a surprise at this point if Amorim wasn’t the next Liverpool manager.
