Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold has been tipped to take over as club captain from Jordan Henderson by ex-Reds midfielder Paul Ince.

The 24-year-old Scouser has been an indispensable member of Jurgen Klopp's side since making his debut in 2016 and has already made 253 appearances for the club, chipping in with 15 goals and 64 assists.

Speaking to Boyle Sports via Liverpool Echo, as cited by Anfield Watch's Twitter account, Ince referred to Alexander-Arnold as the 'best in the world' in his position and explained why he should succeed Henderson as Liverpool captain.

"I don't see any reason why Trent Alexander-Arnold can't become Liverpool's captain. He's a fantastic defender and from a passing point of view, he's the best in the world in my opinion.

"He comes from Liverpool, he knows the club and the city and he's adored by the fans. Jordan Henderson has been an absolutely brilliant captain and if Trent has any aspirations of being a captain then he can learn a lot from Henderson."

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

Being a boyhood Scouser, Trent has won every major trophy in club football at the age of 24 and has proved to be a big personality over the years for Liverpool. He has already captained Liverpool a handful of times and is part of the club's leadership group along with Henderson, James Milner, Virgil van Dijk, Andy Robertson and Alisson Becker.

There's been a lot of talk about Trent's form this season, but all said and done, Ince is spot on about the mercurial defender. He's received a lot of flak of late, but the cream always rises to the top, so don't be surprised if Trent recaptures his best form in the coming weeks to turn around Liverpool's fortunes.

Henderson isn't leaving the club or hanging up his boots any time soon, but when the time comes, Trent is likely to take over the armband from the ex-Sunderland midfielder.
