Bayern deny Leroy Sane claim amidst talk of record Liverpool move

Bayern Munich sporting director Christoph Freund has openly denied claims about Leroy Sane. Liverpool reportedly want the player.

The future of Liverpool's right wing is up in the air. Mohamed Salah is wanted in Saudi Arabia, after all - and there could be an enormous offer heading to Anfield. That doesn't mean it will be accepted, of course, but the Reds will want a contingency plan should their star forward want to depart.

The Mirror have previously claimed that their grand plan is Leroy Sane. The German's contract with Bayern Munich expires in 2025, meaning he'll head into the final year this upcoming summer. Should he do that, the Bavarians may feel they need to sell rather than risk losing him for free.

Sane is having a sensational season, too. There have even been shouts that he's their best player right now - even above the free-scoring Harry Kane. Bayern don't want to lose him.

That's a stance made very clear by sporting director Christoph Freund. He talked to Sport Bild this week and the subject of Sane's contract came up.

There had been speculation that Bayern were yet to even start negotiations and that time was running out. Freund categorically denied that, however.

"No, that is not correct," he said about a lack of contact.

Freund then went on to make it very clear that Bayern value Sane highly and want to secure him long term.

"Reports of talks not taking place with Leroy Sane over new deal are fake," he said. "This is the best Leroy Sane Bayern has had so far. He's one of the players on whom we want to build the future of the team."

It's difficult to know just what this would mean for Liverpool if they do indeed view Sane as their ideal Salah replacement. On the one hand, a new contract for the player could happen.

On the other, there have been talks and yet there's little suggestion that a deal is close. In that case, Sane could well fancy testing the waters this summer to see what comes up.
