Barcelona would be open to selling midfielder Frenkie de Jong, according to The Athletic, as cited by Anfield Edition's Twitter account.

However, the report states that the La Liga club would only allow the 24-year-old to leave if they received a big offer.

De Jong's current contract expires in 2026, which means that Barcelona are very much in control of the youngster's future.

Liverpool have been linked with a move for the Dutchman in recent times.

Anfield Watch Verdict

De Jong is a fine midfielder. There is a reason why Barcelona signed the youngster from Ajax for a transfer fee of €86 million back in the summer of 2019.

De Jong has also been averaging a WhoScored player rating of 7.02 in the La Liga this season.

Therefore, we would love to see Liverpool make a move for the Dutchman, especially if Barcelona are willing to sell him. De Jong's career is only just beginning, so he would be worth the money.

Liverpool did not replace Gini Wijnaldum last summer. The 31-year-old joined Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer.

Therefore, the Reds are currently a midfielder short.
