Barcelona fuel Liverpool contract crisis with plan to SIGN star

Liverpool are in a contract crisis and Barcelona intend to apply a lot more pressure on the Reds.

Liverpool are struggling under the weight of contract pressure. Mo Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk all see their deals expire at the end of the season.

Until those new deals are announced with smiling photos, Liverpool risk seeing at least one of their star players depart on a free transfer. It may well be all three.

But they're not the only concerns. Ibrahima Konate will enter the final year of his contract in the summer, putting Liverpool into another difficult position.

Do you sell while you still can? Or do you spend the time to lock him down but risk losing another player on a free transfer?

Alisson Becker is in a similar situation and it appears Liverpool have pre-empted that one by signing Giorgi Mamardashvili last summer.

Luis Diaz and Barcelona

Luis Diaz has been linked with Barcelona for a long time now. Really, the reports go back to November 2023 when his father admitted a 'dream' of playing for the Catalonians.

He's far from the first Liverpool player to say that, either.

But now there's a sense that it could really happen. Diaz is out of contract in 2027 but he remains on the initial deal he signed in 2022. An attempt to give him a pay boost this season was rejected - Liverpool's offer wasn't good enough.

It's been reported in Spain over the last month that Barcelona were now seriously looking at that situation. Now it appears they've made a decision.

Mundo Deportivo reports that Barcelona have made Diaz their no.1 target this summer. They intend to pressure Liverpool at a time when they're dealing with so many contract issues to just sell the Colombian.

Now, Anfield Watch understands that Liverpool have Diaz on their list of potential exits this summer as part of a massive overhaul. So it could well be that the Reds welcome the interest from Barcelona.
