"At the moment" - Diogo Jota on Liverpool's title chances

Liverpool forward Diogo Jota has given his opinion on the Reds' Premier League title chances.

Liverpool have had a poor start to the 2022-23 campaign. Jurgen Klopp's team are 14 points behind league leaders Arsenal.

But, Jota has not entirely given up on Liverpool mounting a title challenge.

“Well, it is very hard to say,” the Portugal international told Liverpoolfc.com.

“Obviously last season we had, not a similar situation, but we were far behind as well.

“There are still a lot of games to play. At the moment it doesn’t seem viable but we never know and obviously tomorrow (today) it is a different competition (Champions League). We are in a good position and tomorrow we can make that position even better, so that’s what we want.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

We completely agree with Jota's opinion. Nothing is impossible. However, Liverpool just aren't playing well enough at the moment to mount a title challenge.

Yes, the season is still young, but the signs have not been great in the opening eight games of the season.

As far as we are concerned, Liverpool should be looking to secure a top four finish this campaign. Champions League football is a must if the Reds are to attract some high quality players come the summer.

We wish the team all the best for the remainder of the season. Liverpool will face Rangers at the Ibrox Stadium tonight (Champions League).
