Joe Gomez January transfer exit ruled out

Aston Villa like Liverpool defender Joe Gomez but are going to accept defeat in terms of trying to get him to sign for their club this month in the January transfer window.

The Villans have been one of the busiest sides in the league so far in the current market, with boss Steven Gerrard looking to make some big signings.

Indeed, former Red Philippe Coutinho has arrived at Villa Park and already gone about winning over fans there, whilst ex-Everton defender Lucas Digne has also joined the side in an eye-catching deal.

Gomez, meanwhile, is another player that they would have liked to have added to their side this month but it looks as though that is going to be a bridge too far for them:

We would have been hugely surprised if Liverpool had sanctioned the exit of Gomez this month, even if he has not played much this season for the Reds.

Indeed, he might look fourth choice at the moment in terms of our centre-halves but all good sides need at least four top central defenders and Gomez is still a class player.

Keeping him for a little while longer seems the right play here.
