Arne Slot wins AGAIN with Liverpool's 'excellent' stolen signing
Arne Slot has made it perfectly clear that he's thrilled at one deal Liverpool somehow managed to pull off. He just keeps winning.
Arne Slot is celebrating once again. That's just his default emotion these days, though.
EXCLUSIVE: Liverpool all in on SENSATIONAL €60m Spanish midfielder
The Dutchman has come in and thrived at Liverpool, overseeing a run to the top of both the Premier League and Champions League at Christmas. There hasn't really been a bedding-in period, unless this is it.
And that's a scary thought - just how good could Liverpool become?
But regardless what the future holds, this season is proving to be a magnificent one. Slot has Liverpool playing incredible football, sweeping up the points every week.
He's doing it without any major signings, either. Slot has taken over the same squad Jurgen Klopp had, essentially, and helped develop it on into a winning machine.
That's not to say, however, that he hasn't had help.
Arne Slot celebrates Johnny Heitinga deal
Slot wasn't the only arrival on the coaching staff, of course. He brought in a new team to help him and one of the most notable names was compatriot Johnny Heitinga.
Heitinga is a former Everton man, after all. He had been coaching at Ajax, another former club, but was overlooked as their permanent manager in the summer despite holding down an interim role.
That was a mistake. Slot has been absolutely adamant about that, telling Algemeen Dagblad that Ajax simply didn't realise what they had.
“The fact that Sven Mislintat did not choose Heitinga as head coach at the time and that he left Ajax for that reason, Liverpool now benefits from that," said Slot.
"They apparently didn't realise in Amsterdam that they had an excellent trainer in the house.”
Liverpool's benefit, certainly. Heitinga is now helping oversee a remarkable season at Anfield and Slot is right to herald the signing as a wonderful piece of business.
Ajax, it's clear, made a massive mistake.
