Arne Slot picks out Liverpool issue despite big Man United victory

Arne Slot has been reflecting on Liverpool's 3-0 win over Manchester United which rounded off their United States tour in style.

Despite the absence of Dominik Szoboszlai, the Reds claimed bragging rights over their north-west rivals at the Williams-Brice Stadium in South Carolina during the early hours of Sunday morning (UK time).

Fabio Carvalho broke the deadlock with his second goal in as many games before Curtis Jones and Kostas Tsimikas completed the scoring either side of half-time.

However, the 3-0 scoreline doesn't tell the full story. In fact, Liverpool were indebted to goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher as his strong first-half performance helped to preserve a clean sheet as Man United had their chances to score.

Whilst satisfied with the result, Slot wasn't totally pleased with the performance as he admitted his disappointment at how often the Red Devils posed an attacking threat.

"Yes, I was – but not with all of them," Slot told the club's official website in response to be asked if he was pleased with many aspects of his side's performance.

"We are very happy with the result, we scored some really nice goals. But I don't think we had enough control over the game because United were threatening us more than a few times.

"It's a 3-0 win but the score could have been different tonight as well."

Slot reflects on Liverpool's US Tour

The win over Man United followed a 1-0 win against Real Betis and a 2-1 victory over Arsenal, which means it has been the perfect start to life as Liverpool head coach for Slot and he is pleased with how the United States tour went.

"Very positive, I think. Of course the results, that's where everybody is looking at," he added. But players stayed fit and they are able to perform in the way we want, so [a] high-intensity game.

"We saw some great goals during this tour, some great build-up situations and I see them working really, really hard not to concede.

"Like I said, today I think we gave away too many chances, United deserved more than a 3-0 loss. But it's also our quality that we do score our own chances."

The fact that Slot wasn't entirely happy with the chances Liverpool gave up against Man United despite winning the game shows the Dutchman is striving for perfection and that is what he will be demanding from his players.
