Arne Slot FIXES Jürgen Klopp’s mistake to SAVE polarising Liverpool star
Arne Slot appears to see something in Darwin Nunez that Jurgen Klopp no longer could. That's according to a journalist's new claim.
De Telegraaf journalist Marcel van der Kraan understands that Arne Slot saw something in Darwin Nunez that Jurgen Klopp didn't. The German has apparently 'written off' the striker but his successor felt that was too much.
Instead, Slot has Nunez playing in a new kind of role - that of a striker who's looking to defend.

“Nunez had been written off by Jurgen Klopp, but the first thing Slot saw: that boy can run," said Van der Kraan, per Voetbal Zone. "'I need that for chasing down opponents'. That’s something that Nunez can do wonderfully.
“You saw Nunez laying a fantastic ball for Salah [against Arsenal]. Those two strikers Slot has been so busy with in the summer to make sure he plays evenly."
Darwin Nunez under Arne Slot
It's an interesting one, given Nunez was Klopp's personal signing. He was the striker he wanted at Liverpool and the one he felt could be a massive success.
But the Uruguayan hasn't quite been what we all hoped. He's too erratic in front of goal, too inconsistent and far from 'reliable' as a goalscorer.
On the other hand, his energy, desire and work rate are all spectacular. That's what has endeared Nunez to the Anfield crowd - and it's something Slot has immediately tapped into.
He's been a brilliant defensive weapon across the last few games. Against Chelsea, in particular, Nunez was frequently running all the way back to challenge opponents on the edge of Liverpool's box.
He won three tackles in 61 minutes in that one - only Trent Alexander-Arnold won more. Against Bournemouth, Nunez won four tackles in 72 minutes. Again, only one player won more (Alexis Mac Allister).
There's even positivity in the number of fouls he's committing. There were two against the Cherries, three against Chelsea and four against Arsenal. It's a sign of just how much intensity Nunez is bringing to games.
While we'll hope he tones them down for the sake of avoiding the referee's book, Liverpool have certainly benefitted from Nunez's constant harassing. Slot has turned it into a true weapon - and it should only improve from here.
