The Reds are on a spectacular start to the season, winning eight of the nine games they've played across all competitions and only conceding four goals.

And while new boss Arne Slot has been getting to grips with the team, Dominik Szoboszlai has featured in almost every single game.

Despite starting the season in peak fitness, only missing a few games due to tactical changes and rotation purposes, Slot has now warned over the possibility of burning the Hungarian out.

Speaking to TNT ahead of the Reds' visit to Crystal Palace, he said: "Dom is putting so much effort in his pressing that you wonder if he can continue doing this every three days."

As such, Szoboszlai was rested in order to keep him available for the long term, with Curtis Jones being favoured in the lineup.

Slot added: "Every time Curtis comes in he has done well, so it’s good for Curtis to start, also because he is not going to go to the four international games, so it is good for him to have a game as well."

Curtis Jones has had limited availability this season, spending most of the opening few games recovering from injury, but now feeling fresh and back to full fitness, he will be a useful asset to keep the midfield ticking over.

Slot seeking to avoid making Klopp's mistakes

When Liverpool brought in Alexis Mac Allister, Wataru Endo and Szoboszlai last season, the ex-Liverpool boss often felt inclined to play the three as often as possible.

While Harvey Elliott, Jones and other new signing Ryan Gravenberch helped to supplement their workloads, it seemed very clear that Liverpool's favoured players were running on fumes as the season came to an end.

This ran true for Szoboszlai in particular, who put his heart and soul on the pitch to help the team defensively, whilst also proving integral in starting attacks for the forwards.

So far across this season, Szoboszlai has come into criticism for not scoring enough goals and assists as an attacking midfielder, but what cannot be denied is his ability to press on and off the ball, while also constantly tracking back.

Having featured for club and country 10 times already this season - and we're only in October - it is clear that if Liverpool are to learn from their errors last season, that rotation will be even more essential to having success across all four competitions this time.

Elliot is yet to start a game for the Reds this season and Slot is yet to be convinced by Endo, but both will be required to do their part in rotating the team.

While Szoboszlai is not necessarily injured today, his absence from the starting XI today is a timely reminder of how crucial it is to manage the players' time on the pitch.
