Slot IN, Linda TROLLS City, and did Darwin SNUB Klopp? - Liverpool FC news recap
All the latest Liverpool FC news for Monday, 20 May including updates on Arne Slot, Darwin Nunez, Linda Pizzuti and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
SLOT CONFIRMED ON THREE-YEAR DEAL
Liverpool have officially confirmed the appointment of Arne Slot as Jurgen Klopp’s replacement, subject to a work permit. The 45-year-old will take over on 1 June after an agreement was reached with Eredivisie club Feyenoord.
Slot has signed an initial three-year contract at Anfield and his first pre-season with Liverpool will kick off in July. Feyenoord won the 2022-23 Eredivisie title under Slot’s management, while he also helped guide the club to the KNVB Cup in April.
Feyenoord finished second in the 2023-24 Eredivisie campaign, seven points behind runaway winners PSV Eindhoven.
DID DARWIN SNUB KLOPP?
Darwin Nunez came on as a substitute for the tail end of the game against Wolves. However when it came to paying tribute to Jurgen Klopp afterwards, Darwin was noticeably taciturn.
Having applauded enthusiastically as the rest of Klopp’s departing backroom team made their way one by one to the stage at the centre of the pitch to receive their plaudits,
Darwin opted to hang back and FAILED to applaud as Klopp made his way past the guard of honour.
EMOTIONAL TRENT PAYS TRIBUTE
It all got a little too much for Trent Alexander-Arnold on Sunday, who broke down when giving an interview to broadcasters Viaplay while attempting to put Jurgen Klopp’s impact on him, his family and his entire LIFE into context.
Having played 310 times under Klopp and no one else in the professional ranks, scoring 19 times and adding 81 assists, it’s heart-wrenching to think that the time has come to say goodbye.
LINDA PIZZUTI TAKES AIM AT CITY
Linda Pizzuti, the wife of Liverpool owner John Henry, has aimed a hilarious dig at Manchester City on Instagram following their Premier League title win.
Henry and Pizzuti were in attendance at Jurgen Klopp's final game in charge of Liverpool on Sunday afternoon, with the Reds beating Wolves 2-0 at Anfield.
It was an emotional afternoon for Liverpool supporters both inside Anfield and across the world as Klopp's special reign came to a close, with tributes pouring in from players, managers and pundits.
Liverpool SCOUT Euro 2020 winner
Liverpool have accelerated their pursuit of Juventus star Federico Chiesa after scouting the winger during the Coppa Italia final, according to a report.
It promises to be a summer of change for Liverpool as Arne Slot replaces Jurgen Klopp at Anfield, with the likes of Michael Edwards and Julian Ward having returned behind the scenes.
Those changes are likely to have a significant impact on Liverpool's transfer plans in the summer window, but the club are expected to pursue an attacker of some description regardless - most likely a wide forward or winger.
Klopp linked with Dortmund comeback
It was reported a few weeks back that Borussia Dortmund higher-ups were planning to create a new ‘Head of Football’ role for Jurgen Klopp after his Liverpool send-off, but BBC anchor Gary Lineker now suggests there could be an even higher accolade on offer in Westphalia.
Klopp could return to Dortmund as club president, says the ex-striker, a position currently occupied by Dr. Reinhold Lunow.
