Liverpool have made a decision about what they would like to do with Caoimhin Kelleher amid rumours of his future being in doubt at Anfield. 

For many years now, Caoimhin Kelleher has been an esteemed deputy to Alisson Becker at Liverpool. Once proclaimed by Jurgen Klopp as the best second-choice goalkeeper in world football, Kelleher has lived up to those words.

The Republic of Ireland international has stepped in to cover Alisson with outstanding quality every time he has been called upon.

Last season with Alisson suffering a bout of injuries, Kelleher had to play more minutes than ever before, but he remained up to the challenge and produced some outstanding performances that saw him earn rave reviews.

Caoimhin Kelleher's uncertain future at Liverpool

After such an impressive season, there have been a myriad of rumours suggesting Kelleher was ready to make a permanent switch away from Anfield this summer.

Such a choice would only be natural for the goalkeeper who is going to be turning 26 years old towards the end of this year and who will be keen to be a first choice as he enters his prime years.

That is unlikely to be granted to him at Liverpool with Alisson still very much viewed as the club's no.1 choice in the goalkeeping position for now - a stance that Arne Slot is unlikely to change.

Nonetheless, Kelleher has performed very well in pre-season in Alisson's absence and it seems Liverpool have made a choice about his future as the transfer window enters into its final few weeks.

Liverpool's decision on Caoimhin Kelleher

According to The Athletic's recent report Liverpool are now planning for next season with Kelleher still at the club. The Reds value Kelleher at around £25-30m and would prefer to keep him at the club. But their resolve has also not reportedly been tested yet either.

Barring an unprecedented offer in the next few weeks, this means that Kelleher would continue the following campaign at Anfield which will be fantastic news to Liverpool supporters.

But it may also mean Liverpool will have other business to sort out. Vitezslav Jaros, who tasted being a first choice goalkeeper at Sturm Graz last season and put in a strong cameo against Manchester United in pre-season, will be unlikely to want to stick around as the club's third choice. If Kelleher stays, then Liverpool will at least need to resolve Jaros' future.
