After missing a chance created by a RIDICULOUS ball played in by Trent Alexander-Arnold on Saturday, Anthony Gordon has apologised, saying 'I owe him one'.

The two England internationals played in their respective positions against the Republic of Ireland and seem to have developed a connection on the pitch.

Back in the right-back position for England for the first time in four years, Trent produced a masterclass, with two big chances created and ten long balls completed.

On a brief foray into midfield, inverting as Declan Rice and Kobbie Mainoo pushed forward, Trent delivered a phenomenal pass to split the Irish centre-halves, but Gordon was unable to convert the chance.

In his post-match interview with ITV Sport, Gordon said: “I should have scored so I’ve still got a lot to work on.

“I owe Trent one for that pass… I’ll make up for that.”

Gordon on his way to the Reds?

The lifelong Liverpool fan had previously played for Everton before making the move to Newcastle in 2023 for £45million.

Despite being linked to a Liverpool move this summer, nothing came to fruition.

While Gordon and Alexander-Arnold are gelling on the pitch, it’s only natural to wonder how the duo could perform at Anfield should Gordon want the move.

Prior to the summer transfer window closing, Newcastle manager Eddie Howe was adamant that Gordon was not for sale.

But if the pairing continues to thrive for England on international duty, then Gordon may want to receive Trent’s passes on a more regular basis.

It was rumoured the winger would cost around £70million, and would have replaced Luis Diaz had he moved on in the summer, but after instead opting to stay at the club, he has made a remarkable start to the season with three goals in the opening three games.

While rumours surrounding Gordon have cooled, Liverpool have shown they like to keep their front-line fresh and it's possible the club may go back in for the 23-year-old at some point.
