Andy Robertson has shared a positive update as he continues his recovery from the injury that has kept him out of action for the last three months.

The left back suffered a dislocated shoulder in Scotland's defeat to Spain during the October international break.

Robertson then underwent surgery in order to prevent long-term damage, lengthening his absence from the Liverpool squad.

Speaking earlier this month, assistant manager Pep Lijnders revealed that Robertson was on track in his rehab, with the defender set for a trip to Dubai to step up his recovery ahead of a return to full-contact team training.

"Robbo, he's almost at the three-month mark, so he will get checked by the surgeon," Lijnders said. "And if he does that scan and we see everything [so] that we can really progress him, he will go to Dubai for a week to do proper volume sessions, proper sessions, so that will be good for him. Then we see the three-month-mark scan and then we can see how quick he can go into contact again.

"Hopefully both of them – Robbo and Kostas – will be back at the end of this month [January] to train with the team."

Now, Robertson has shared photos of himself training in Dubai as he nears a return to first-team action.

The 29-year-old Scotland captain shared the image of himself in action to his Instagram, alongside the caption "a good week away".

Due to the severity of his injury, Robertson is unlikely to be rushed back, with Jurgen Klopp previously urging caution over the defender's reintegration.

At the end of December, the boss predicted it would take the entirety of January for Robertson to be ready to return to team training.

Robertson's absence is far from the only one Liverpool face in defence.

Backup left back Kostas Tsimikas also remains unavailable after suffering a broken collarbone last month. Meanwhile, Trent Alexander-Arnold will sit out 'a few weeks' with a knee problem.

Joel Matip too is sidelined for the long-term with an ACL injury.

Earlier this month, Liverpool recalled 21- year-old left back Owen Beck from Dundee for additional defensive cover.
