Andy Robertson delivers statement display for Liverpool - he's back

Andy Robertson delivered a statement performance for Liverpool against Burnley. It's a reminder to everyone that he's back.

Andy Robertson made his first start for Liverpool on Saturday since October. It's been a long, long time without the Scot but he was finally back into the lineup against Burnley.

And what a performance it was. Robertson played like he'd never been away, dominating the left flank and making things happen at both ends of the pitch.

Robertson won two tackles from two attempts, while he had 100 touches - only the centre-backs had more. Above all, though, were the chances he created.

The 29-year-old created five chances against Burnley, two more than any other player on the pitch. In fact, that was only one fewer than Burnley created as a team.

Now, Joe Gomez is a very different kind of left-back to Robertson. It shouldn't surprise anyone that he hasn't created more than two chances in a game this season. But Kostas Tsimikas hasn't hit that number once this season, either - his highest total was four against Fulham.

Robertson, though, has now created five chances in a Premier League fixture twice this season. He's also had a game with four (Tottenham away).

In other words, there just isn't another left-back like him at the club and really, there isn't anyone like him in world football in the position. Liverpool have unquestionably been excellent without the Scot, particularly going forward, but having him back in the team boosts them even further.

And that's the statement here. Liverpool have been a dangerous team to face all season and Robertson's return actually makes them even better. It's exactly what Jurgen Klopp and co. needed as we head into the business end of the campaign.

With trophies on the line, Robertson at left-back might make all the difference.
