Andre Onana & Gary Neville make the same jibe after Liverpool 0-0 Man Utd

Andre Onana and Gary Neville both referenced a lack of atmosphere at Anfield during the goalless draw between Liverpool and Manchester United on Sunday.

The Reds welcomed a crowd of 57,158 people for the re-opening of the Anfield Road upper tier for arguably the most anticipated league game of the season.

However, ultimately the match proved to be a damp squib, with Liverpool unable to find a way past their old rivals in a frustrating affair.

Jurgen Klopp's side created plenty of chances but failed to take them against the visitors, who will value the point much more highly.

The disappointing result also means the Reds surrender top spot to Arsenal, who went first after beating Brighton.

Despite the record numbers inside Anfield for the occasion, the fans couldn't help to sway the tie in Liverpool's favour and the opening of the redeveloped stand was far from the memorable occasion hoped for – particularly after such a long wait.

Meanwhile, United goalkeeper Onana – who made eight saves on the day – claimed he was unmoved by the Anfield experience.

Asked by MUTV if he had noticed the atmosphere, he replied: "Nothing.

"At Manchester United you're going to get that, I have to be ready for everything. I'm used to be playing big games with high intensity."

Onana was not the only one to play down the Anfield atmosphere, with ex-United defender and Sky Pundit Neville commenting that it was the 'quietest' he'd heard the Liverpool fans in this fixture.

"The atmosphere was the worst I've seen at Anfield ever for a Liverpool-Manchester United game,'" Neville said. "I've always been complimentary of Liverpool fans but it's the quietest crowd I've seen in this game.

"I think there was maybe a little bit of overconfidence before the game, with people wearing Christmas jumpers with 7-0 on them and stuff like that!"
