Alisson set to miss Liverpool clash with Brentford with injury

Alisson Becker is set to miss out on Liverpool's trip to Brentford with a fresh injury problem.

The Reds' first-choice keeper was left out of the squad that beat Burnley 3-1 at Anfield last weekend with an illness, but had been expected to return for this Saturday's clash — with Jurgen Klopp even declaring the stopper fit in his pre-match press conference.

However, there are widespread reports that the 31-year-old Brazilian picked up a hamstring injury during the training session on Friday and has not travelled with the team to London.

In his place, Caoimhin Kelleher, who impressed against Burnley, is now likely to have a run in the team.

Alisson is just the latest Liverpool player to be struck down by a hamstring issue, following similar injuries to Dominik Szoboszlai, Thiago Alcantara and Mohamed Salah.

Salah, however, is expected to return to contention against Brentford, after four weeks out following the issue he sustained at the Africa Cup of Nations.

There is no indication as to the severity of Alisson's injury just yet, with an update expected prior to Saturday's game.

The keeper missed three matches earlier this season with a similar problem picked up during the 1-1 draw at Manchester City back in November.

Kelleher, who has made 13 appearances in all competitions this season, will likely remain Liverpool's starting keeper for the coming three games, with Klopp previously confirming the Irishman would start the Carabao Cup final against Chelsea on 25 February regardless.

Prior to that showdown, the Reds take on Brentford (17 Feb) and Luton (21 Feb) in the Premier League.

Trent Alexander-Arnold is another key player set to miss Saturday's trip to Brentford, as well as the games against Luton and Chelsea, with the vice-captain suffering from a recurring knee injury.
