Alisson Becker breaks his own record in phenomenal performance against Spurs

Despite the poor result and shocking officiating in Saturday's last-gasp defeat to Tottenham, Jurgen Klopp can take plenty of positives.

And one of those is that Liverpool have the best goal keeper on the planet.

Despite seemingly fighting against more than just Ange Postecoglou's side, Liverpool remained in touching distance of a point until the very last second, despite playing 65 minutes with ten men and 20 minutes with just nine.

The entire team performed remarkably, and that includes Joel Matip, who was very unfortunate to score the own goal that ultimately took a point away from the Reds in the dying moments.

However, the standout player for Liverpool was the one in between the sticks.

Alisson Becker was immense once again, with his performance going a little under the radar amid the chaos and controversy.

The Brazilian shot-stopper set a personal best for most saves in a single Premier League game just last month in Liverpool's brilliant late comeback win versus Newcastle.

He produced seven stops (including August's Premier League Save of the Month from Miguel Almiron's volley) to ensure the Reds weren't out of contention before Darwin Nuñez's match-winning cameo.

However, against Tottenham – as per FotMob – Liverpool's number one went even further and made an astonishing eight saves while the Reds were under the cosh.

Many of the stops at the weekend weren't your standard saves either, with Alisson often at full-stretch, showcasing his reactions and once again proving his worth as the best goal keeper in the world.

While, eight stops is a PB for Alisson, it is still (amazingly) six saves shy of matching the Premier League record of 14 in a single game – currently held by David de Gea, Vito Mannone and Tim Krul.

Liverpool's imperious number one, who celebrates his 31st birthday this week, was one of several players to speak out on the injustice of Saturday's defeat, calling into question the way in which VAR is utilised in England.

He said: "We are human beings and we have to be outraged by this kind of thing. Yes, it's the fan's feeling. Our feeling too. A mistake that cost us the game. Today could not have been totally different. Now we have to deal with this.

"We, internally, will deal with this. I hope these things stop happening internally too. I've always said that VAR is good, precisely for these unfair situations. Incredibly, these things continue to happen with something so simple, with something that is so objective. And the technology is there. Why don't you use the technology that FIFA used in the World Cup?"
