Head coach Arne Slot admits he may have made a mistake when it comes to Alisson.

The Brazilian goalkeeper picked up his second injury of the season during Liverpool's 1-0 win against Crystal Palace before the international break. He now won't be available until after the November break.

This means that Caoimhin Kelleher will be between the sticks for at least the next seven games, giving the Irishman another extended run in the squad following his productive spell last season.

Before his arrival at Anfield, Alisson had missed just five games in his six-year career, however since he made the move, he has missed 50 games for club and country. This reoccurring problem could become a significant issue.

Slot admits Alisson mistake

In his pre-Chelsea press conference, Slot admitted he may have made a mistake starting Alisson at Selhurst Park in the early kick-off, less than 72 hours after the Bologna Champions League game.

"If you play Wednesday evening, it might be disadvantage to play 12:30pm after a Champions League game," said the Dutchman. "The chances for injury go up. We need to take this into consideration. You cannot change all 11 players but in retrospect I might have chose Caoimh over Ali."

Slot also confirmed he has had similar issues in the past with a goalkeeper at Feyenoord and that the club are looking into Alisson's issue: "It's uncommon for goalkeepers. At Feyenoord I had the same with my goalkeeper, getting muscles injuries.

"We are looking into it and what the reasons are. If you get one the chances of another go up so we have tried to be careful."

Alisson on fixture congestion

Alisson issued a warning about fixture congestion ahead of the Champions League opener against AC Milan last month, with clubs being stretched to their limits as they manage the intense demands of multiple tournaments, making player fitness and squad rotation more crucial than ever.

"For the supporters, it's amazing. More games, more bigger games, big teams playing each other. It's a good thing as a player you are playing against the best." said Alisson.

"It's always a good idea to add some games to the calendar that is not busy...I'm being ironic a little bit!" the goalkeeper joked.

"But we are here to do a job. Sometimes nobody asks the players what they think about adding more games so maybe our opinion doesn't matter. But everybody knows what we think about having more games."

Alisson added: “All the people responsible for organising the calendar need to sit together and listen to all the parts, including the players. You can’t just add competitions and add games. If you’re tired you can’t compete at high level. We need a solution to that.”
