Liverpool have been informed by the Football Association (FA) that Alexis Mac Allister's red card against Bournemouth has been overturned, following a successful appeal from the club.

Mac Allister was very controversially sent off in the second-half of Liverpool's 3-1 victory against Bournemouth on Saturday, but after a successful appeal, the ban has been rescinded and the Argentine will be available for selection against Newcastle this weekend.

As previously reported by Anfield Watch, Liverpool's number 10 clearly fouled Ryan Christie with a late tackle during the game, but his challenge didn't seem dangerous or reckless enough to warrant a sending off.

Referee Thomas Bramall's on-field decision wasn't reversed by the VAR official Paul Tierney, leaving fans frustrated and Mac Allister confused.

However, on Tuesday evening, official communication from the FA revealed that the red card decision had been overturned, and the player's three-match suspension had been cancelled.

The statement read: "An independent Regulatory Commission has removed Alexis Mac Allister's three-match suspension following a claim of wrongful dismissal. The Liverpool midfielder was sent off for serious foul play during their Premier League game against Bournemouth on Saturday 19th August."

The news will come as a massive relief for fans and Jurgen Klopp, as Liverpool remain light in midfield. Curtis Jones missed the Bournemouth game and was absent from training Tuesday afternoon after picking up a slight ankle injury, while Stefan Bajcetic and Thiago Alcantara are both only just coming back from long spells on the sidelines.
