Alexis Mac Allister is playing big role in Darwin Nunez's development

Darwin Nunez has arguably been Liverpool's biggest success story of the season so far, but his progression may have not been so swift if it wasn't for summer signing Alexis Mac Allister.

The Uruguayan striker had a difficult debut campaign in England, struggling for consistency as he adapted to life on Merseyside following a big-money move from Benfica.

However, having just scored a jaw-dropping winner in the Carabao Cup midweek, Nunez's impact this season has been more obvious.

Alongside the success of the four midfield summer signings, Nunez has been the feel-good story at the beginning of a promising season for the Reds. While still rough around the edges, the 24-year-old has scored seven goals and laid on five assists in just 14 games.

One of the contributing factors to his improved performances has been his increased understanding of the English language. While far from fluent, Nunez is certainly more adept at understanding the Scouse tones of Curtis Jones than he was at this stage last year.

According to The Athletic, summer signing Alexis Mac Allister has been of great help to the forward by "acting as a translator and teacher, or filling in the gaps to Nunez where Klopp forgets to tell him."

Mac Allister and Nunez both speak Spanish, but the former Brighton midfielder's grasp of English is much better than his Uruguayan teammate's.

Therefore, it's handy that Klopp can have a translator pitchside for Liverpool's No. 9 and, while it may not be the most significant aspect of his development, Nunez has certainly thrived since Mac Allister's arrival.

Mac Allister has already revealed that his Liverpool teammates joke about him being Klopp's 'son' due to his willingness to listen to the boss and soak up information. The fact that the Argentine is now acting as a translator to help the manager out means he's unlikely to escape further light-hearted ridicule from the rest of the squad.

The pair's connection was also apparent during Liverpool's 3-1 win over West Ham United in September, Mac Allister providing his only assist in a red shirt so far with a lovely scooped through ball which Nunez volleyed home with aplomb.
