Alexis Mac Allister discusses 'tough' pre-season at Liverpool

Alexis Mac Allister reveals how he's settling in with his new teammates at Liverpool, after moving to the club from Brighton & Hove Albion this summer. 

The Argentine midfielder joined the Reds for a fee believed to be in the region of £35m after the Reds triggered a release clause in his contract. Mac Allister has already turned out twice for Liverpool, making his debut in the 4-2 win against Karlsruhe FC.

He also featured in the thrilling 4-4 draw against German second-division side Greuther Furth as the Reds concluded their ten-day stay in Germany with a goal-fest. Speaking after the game, the 24-year-old claimed that the Reds can build 'something important' in the forthcoming season after an intense summer of preparation.

"It's a tough pre-season but we all know that this part is very important for the season," said the Argentina World Cup winner told the club's official website. "As you can see, three sessions is not easy every day but we are doing well and overall it's a very good pre-season.

"It's a pre-season game, of course you always want to win but that's not the most important thing. We know we have to improve in a couple of things but it's good to get more minutes in the tank. There are a lot of positive things. I'm a new player so I still have to get to know my teammates, their strengths and weaknesses. But they are really good players here and we can build something important."

Mac Allister also spoke glowingly about his first few weeks at the club and admitted that the trip to Singapore would be 'another great experience' as Liverpool prepare to fly to Asia to take on Bayern Munich and Leicester City.

He said: "The welcome from the team was amazing and they are helping me every day so I can do my best on the pitch. We all try to help each other on the pitch and that's very important for our goal. We will try our best to have a very good season."

"We know that there are a lot of people waiting for us. Singapore will be another great experience for us with two games (that will be) very important. We will try to improve every day and I think it will be a very good two games there."

With Liverpool currently short of options in midfield, Mac Allister is likely to be thrown straight into the action as the Reds' Premier League opener against Chelsea edges closer.
