Alexis Mac Allister compares Anfield atmosphere to La Bombonera

Alexis Mac Allister has compared the Anfield atmosphere to that of Boca Juniors' famous stadium La Bombonera.

Liverpool's new number ten made his home debut in the win over Bournemouth last month, having joined the club from Brighton in a £35m deal this summer.

The 24-year-old has played twice to date at Anfield as a Liverpool player, with a third outing to come this weekend with the visit of West Ham on Sunday.

Despite the ground not yet being at full capacity, due to delays in the full re-opening of the Anfield Road Stand, Mac Allister has been impressed by what he has experienced so far.

Speaking about the Anfield experience, he told Argentine outlet Clarin: “It’s incredible. Honestly, it is difficult to explain, but I invite all people, if one day they have the opportunity to go, to do it.

"As you say, that introduction, You’ll Never Walk Alone, is something very impactful.

"I've still only played twice, not more, it’s not much. But both times I wanted to take my time and I started to listen and look a little at all the fans and everything happening. It’s incredible. The truth is that I have enjoyed it a lot.

"Without doubt it's an iconic stadium in football and I hope I can enjoy it for many years."

Asked about the similarities between the atmospheres at Anfield and another iconic venue, La Bombonera (the home of his former club Boca Juniors), Mac Allister admitted there are comparisons to be drawn, though the way fans express themselves in the two countries can be quite different.

"Yes, I think there is something similar between them and it is obviously the passion, with which the game is experienced," Mac Allister said.

"Other than that, I think they are two quite different atmospheres due to the way we cheer on our team. In Argentina, we are very used to singing a lot, creating songs.

“Maybe here in England they are not so used to it, maybe it is a little more the shouting and the emotion and how it carries the team forward. But without a doubt they are two very beautiful atmospheres. But I think there is a point of comparison and it is the passion with which football is lived and how they support the team."
