Trent Alexander-Arnold set for Arne Slot talks amid Liverpool contract DECISION

Liverpool are reportedly planning to hold talks with Trent Alexander-Arnold next week but a new contract will not be the only topic on the agenda.

It's well documented that the Reds star has entered the final 12 months of his deal at Anfield and speculation that he could join Real Madrid on a free transfer next summer refuses to go away.

In fact, if Alexander-Arnold doesn't sign a new deal before the end of the year, he will be able to speak with Los Blancos from January 1, 2025 - and other teams outside of England - to reach a pre-contract agreement.

Although, despite the very real prospect of losing such a key player for nothing, Liverpool are said to be calm over the 25-year-old's future.

Having said that, whilst a new contract for the full-back is a high priority for the club, they will make an attempt to convince Alexander-Arnold to commit his long-term future once he's had talks with new head coach Arne Slot.

According to CaughtOffside, Alexander-Arnold will speak with the Dutchman about his role and position next week having been used as a central midfielder by Gareth Southgate as England reached the final of Euro 2024 earlier in the summer.

However, whilst that experiment didn't quite go to plan, it remains to be seen what Slot has in store of the Liverpool star, although links to Martin Zubimendi suggest a midfield role at club level is unlikely.

The report also states that once manager and player have spoken, soon after the Merseyside giants will attempt to advance things on the contract front in the knowledge that if things don’t go to plan, it could pave the way for Alexander-Arnold to join Real Madrid.
