Mo Salah: ‘All three’ MOTD pundits thought the same about Liverpool star

Mo Salah had all three Match of the Day pundits saying the same thing with his performance against Brighton on Sunday, says Alan Shearer. The forward scored Liverpool's winner.

Mo Salah put in a performance that raised eyebrows on Sunday. The Egyptian started for Liverpool and found himself peppering the Seagull's goal for the entire time he was on the pitch.

In fact, Salah broke a personal record for the most shots on goal in a game. There were 12 in total but through a mix of questionable finishing and bad luck, Brighton were mostly spared.

Mostly. Salah did actually pop up with the winner, collecting a fine pass from Alexis Mac Allister and finishing nicely. That was goal no.23 of the season and his 16th in the Premier League.

The goal was a massive one in Liverpool's season and the watching Alan Shearer felt it was inevitable that Salah would get it. He saw the large number of shots as nothing but positive.

"Mohamed Salah had one of those days where he was shooting at every opportunity, but when myself, Gary Lineker and Glenn Murray were watching for MOTD2, all three of us as former strikers thought it was only a matter of time before one of them went in," Shearer told the BBC.

"The sign of a great goalscorer is that you are never bothered when you are missing chances because you still believe you are going to get a goal.

"That was the case with Salah. It took him nine attempts to score, but it turned out to be the winner and that's the one that matters."

The sign of a great goalscorer, and Salah is certainly that. No one should really doubt Salah at this point, even if he is missing shot and shot.

The Egyptian proved that once again on Sunday with his finish. In hindsight, it was perhaps less that Salah was struggling and more that Brighton narrowly avoided a hat trick from the Reds' no.11.

Liverpool need him firing if they're to deliver their remaining two trophies - and he's certainly doing just that.
