"Absolutely great" - Jurgen Klopp waxes lyrical about Joel Matip's goal against Leeds
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has praised Reds centre-back Joel Matip for his goal against Leeds United at Anfield last night.
The 30-year-old found the back of the net 30 minutes into the Premier League fixture. Matip scored after playing a one-two pass with winger Mohamed Salah.
Klopp made it clear after the match that he was delighted with the centre-back's finish against the Whites.
As quoted by Anfield Watch's Twitter account, the 54-year-old told LiverpoolFC.com the following: "You remember Mo's goal from Trent's cross at Leeds? Today was a similar situation, it gave Joel the chance on that right side to step in, that was his duty. He did that this time and it was absolutely great." "It's not possible in all games or needed in all games but against Leeds it was possible. He got the full reward for it."Liverpool ended up defeating Leeds United 6-0.
Anfield Watch Verdict
Matip is a defender by trade. But, we have seen several times this season that he is capable of putting his foot on the ball and driving at the opposition defence.
Therefore, we weren't completely shocked to see him play a one-two pass with Salah before finding the back of the net.
Mind you, we did not know that Matip possessed such a delicate finish in his locker.
On another note, the centre-back has been solid for Liverpool this season. Matip has been averaging a WhoScored player rating of 7.18 (29 appearances) across the 2021-22 club campaign.
Matip has been able to stay fit in recent times. The 30-year-old has suffered a lot of injuries in the past.
With that being the case, hopefully Matip can stay on the park for the remainder of the season. He is a crucial cog in Klopp's side.
