"A serial offender" - Ex-PL ref launches scathing attack on Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp

Former Premier League referee Keith Hackett believes Jurgen Klopp must be sanctioned for his 'unacceptable' touchline antics in Liverpool's 4-3 win against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

Klopp went over the top with his celebration after Diogo Jota's last-gasp celebration, which triggered a lot of angry reactions from fans and pundits alike. Speaking to the Telegraph, as cited by Anfield Watch's Twitter account, Hackett feels it's high time the Liverpool boss was banned, referring to him as a 'serial offender.'

"It is high time the authorities brought Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp to book over his unacceptable touchline antics. He is becoming a serial offender. Match officials should not have to rely on sanctions being applied by a disciplinary panel days after these incidents following them submitting a report.

"Match Officials must do their job on the day and enforce the law and deal with this kind of behavior, which, unfortunately, Klopp has shown too often before. Klopp has every right to show passion – and indeed his complaint to Tierney was a valid one – but he must make his point within acceptable limits.

"It was not the only flashpoint during the game. Tierney should have issued a red card for a high boot by Liverpool’s Diogo Jota into the face of Oliver Skipp. I would say to video assistant referee Chris Kavanagh this was a clear and obvious error and you should have intervened."

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

Klopp is well within his right to question the referee's decision, but if a former official feels he must do it within acceptable limits, one can't really complain. However, this is hardly the worst offense on a football field, so it's a little hard to understand why it's being blown out of proportion.

If the Liverpool boss has to be fined or banned, the FA should look to get it over with and move on. Doing so would also lay down the marker and allow the German - or any other manager for that matter - to stay within the rules.
