Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has praised his teammate Ibrahima Konate during a recent interview.

The club signed the centre-back from RB Leipzig for a transfer fee of £36 million last summer.

Since then, Konate has made 23 appearances for Liverpool's first-team. The Frenchman has performed well in the aforementioned games.

Konate has averaged a WhoScored player rating of 7.04. The defender has also scored three goals.

With that being the case, Van Dijk has waxed lyrical about Konate.

“A fantastic player. To be that good already at such an age (22), it’s crazy, in my opinion," the Dutchman told the club's official website, as quoted by Anfield Watch's Twitter account.

“Obviously he still has loads to learn and, in my opinion, as a centre-back I think it comes with experience, dealing with situations, dealing with mistakes, dealing with moments that you fail (in) maybe to make sure it doesn’t happen anymore.

"But he is already at such a high level and such consistency as well. So, it’s great to have each other and push each other each and every day. Joel (Matip) obviously an incredible season as well, so let’s keep that going.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

We completely agree with Van Dijk's take on Konate. As we have pointed out, the Frenchman certainly possesses a lot of potential.

Also, due to Konate's age, it would be fair to assume that he will only improve over time. The youngster would be learning so much as a result of playing and training alongside one of the best centre-backs in the world (Van Dijk).

We look forward to seeing how Konate's career plays out. We wish him all the very best for the remainder of the season.
