A complete wrap up of Liverpool's 2022 January transfer window

The 2022 January transfer window closed late last night.

With that being the case, we thought that we would take a look at how the window went for Liverpool Football Club.

This piece will look at the ins, outs and the transfer which the club did not quite pull off on deadline day.

Ins

Luis Diaz

Liverpool signed Diaz from Porto for a transfer fee of £37 million, with the fee potentially rising to £49 million.

The Colombia international scored 16 goals and registered six assists in 28 appearances for Porto during the first half of the 2021-22 season.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is excited about working with Diaz. The German has stated that the winger is a player that he really wanted.

As quoted by The Evening Standard, Klopp told the club's official website the following: “I also must make clear my appreciation to our ownership and football operations team for how they have managed to act so decisively to get this done.

“Luis is a player we believe will make us better now and in the future. He is the player we really wanted and they’ve made it happen, so I am very happy.”

The aforementioned figures and comments highlight that Diaz does possess talent. We look forward to seeing how he will go in a Liverpool shirt.

Outs

Nathaniel Phillips

Phillips has joined Bournemouth on loan for the remainder of the 2021-22 campaign. The centre-back is behind the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip, Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez in the pecking order.

With that being the case, Phillips had only made four appearances for Liverpool's senior team in the first half of the season.

Therefore, we are glad that the Englishman has been able to secure a loan spell away from the club.

Neco Williams

Williams has joined Fulham on loan for the remainder of the season. The right-back is another player that has been starved of opportunity.

Williams only made eight appearances for Liverpool's first-team in the opening half of the season. To be fair to Williams, he is competing against a world-class right-back in Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The Scouser is a defender by trade, but he adds so much going forward. Alexander-Arnold has scored two goals and registered 15 assists in 25 appearances for Liverpool this season.

Therefore, we are glad that Williams will get some game time elsewhere.

The unsuccessful transfer

Fabio Carvalho

Liverpool reportedly agreed a €10 million fee with Fulham for Carvalho's services. The midfielder was going to be loaned back to the Championship club for the remainder of the 2021-22 campaign.

However, the paperwork and contract was not sorted before the 11pm deadline yesterday.

The Reds will reportedly look to sign Carvalho in the summer instead.

Anfield Watch Verdict

The January 2022 transfer window was reasonably successful for Liverpool. The Reds added a bit of depth to their forward line and loaned out two fringe players.

However, it was disappointing that Liverpool could not secure Carvalho's services, as he is a talented player. But, the club will have another opportunity to sign the youngster come the summer.

With Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane set to return from the Africa Cup of Nations very soon, the Reds will have the quality/numbers to launch an assault on the Champions League.

Liverpool will face Inter Milan in the last-16 of Europe's elite competition later this month.

In terms of the Premier League, the Reds are nine points behind league leaders Manchester City. Liverpool do have a game in hand over the Citizens, but a lot would have to go right for Klopp's side to win the title this season.
