5 talking points from Liverpool's 4-0 pre-season victory against Leicester

Liverpool kicked off their Singapore pre-season fixtures with an absolute bang, after emphatically beating Leicester 4-0 in dominant fashion.

Straight from the word go, the Reds were hungry for the win this morning, with Jurgen Klopp's first XI scoring three wonderfully-worked goals before the half-time whistle, courtesy of a instinctive finish from red-hot Darwin Nunez, a first senior goal from youngster Bobby Clark, and a clinical header from the always-reliable Diogo Jota.

The second-half XI picked up Liverpool's form like clockwork, with Ben Doak also scoring his first senior goal to secure a 4-0 win for the Reds.

With our forwards in incredible form, and the defence recording their first clean sheet of pre-season, here are the five main talking points from this morning's match.

MAC ALLISTER IS A BARGAIN

Liverpool's new Argentinian wizard started once again for the Reds against Leicester, in a midfield three alongside Bobby Clark and Curtis Jones - and my word, this man is an absolute steal for £35m.

Despite not scoring or directly assisting, Mac Allister quite simply stole the show in the first-half. His ability to turn under pressure, his intricate touches, his eye for a through ball - our new number 10 has it all.

Providing two pre-assists to Mo Salah (who was also, characteristically exceptional today) for both Bobby Clark and Diogo Jota's goals, Liverpool's forward line must be licking their lips at the thought of being fed by a player like Mac Allister all season.

FIRST OF MANY

While much of the focus in pre-season so far has been on Liverpool's new recruits, one of the main takeaways from this morning's match is that it isn't just the club's present that looks strong, but its future too - with Bobby Clark and Ben Doak both scoring their first senior goals in superb fashion.

The first of the two came in the first half, as Bobby Clark doubled Liverpool's lead with a wonderful low-curled strike into the bottom left corner. Mo Salah found the youngster just inside the 18-yard box, and safe to say the opportunity was taken.

Ben Doak then got his piece of the action with around 20 minutes to go in the second-half, killing off the game as he scored Liverpool's fourth with a fantastic header at the back post.

The pair have massively impressed during this year's pre-season campaign, so fans were naturally ecstatic to see both players open their goalscoring accounts, and if these performances are anything to go by, it certainly won't be the last time we see Doak and Clark putting the ball in the back of the net.

RED-HOT NUNEZ

In terms of pure goal-scoring form, new number nine Darwin Nunez is leading the Liverpool pack, which for a player with his price tag and expectations, is exactly what fans want to hear.

Scoring four goals in three pre-season games so far, Nunez looks like a different player to what we saw before the summer - he has been composed, instinctive and clinical, and many supporters believe his potential for goals this season is sky high.

While the personnel who make up Liverpool's strongest front-three has been largely debated - and rightly so, Liverpool's attacking options are beyond plentiful - the form the Uruguayan is exhibiting as of late certainly puts him in contention for a starting spot against Chelsea on August 13th.

TRENT BACK IN DEFENCE

With Conor Bradley not travelling to Singapore with the rest of the squad, Liverpool's right-back options were lacking going into the Leicester game.

It therefore came as no surprise when Trent Alexander-Arnold was named in his staple position before kick-off, with Curtis Jones, Bobby Clark and Alexis Mac Allister occupying the midfield ahead of him.

However, much to the enjoyment of fans, the Scouser was once again playing in an inverted role in possession - which brought him so much joy towards the tail end of last season.

Whether Trent starts the season at right-back or in midfield, one certainty is that Jurgen Klopp will give our biggest creative outlet the freedom to play in those midfield areas as much as possible.

Watching Liverpool's number 66 unpick defence after defence this year is going to be an absolute joy.

QUANSAH IS A MAN MOUNTAIN

By far one of the stand-outs in the second-half, Jarell Quansah was imperious today and is almost certainly deserving of first-team minutes this season.

Liverpool have been widely reported to be on the hunt for a defender before the season begins, and while I'm not suggesting this hunt should end, Quansah's performances in pre-season will give Jurgen Klopp plenty to think about.

The 20-year-old hasn't put a foot wrong, and with the injury records of Ibrahima Konate, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip, the towering centre-half will be desperate to force his way into his manager's plans.

Another solid performance against Bayern Munich next week, and he could be well on his way to making a proper name for himself.
