5 of Diogo Jota's best goals for Liverpool after reaching incredible milestone
Diogo Jota marked his return to the Liverpool starting lineup with a well-taken goal in the Reds' 3-1 win over Fulham on Sunday.
The Portuguese's recent recovery from injury has been timely, coming at a moment in which Liverpool's other forwards seem to be wasting chances at an alarming rate.
Jota's left-footed drive sealed all three points at Craven Cottage and secured a hugely important win for the Reds, but it also helped the attacker hit an impressive personal milestone.
The 27-year-old now has 100 goals in English football - 44 of which came for Wolverhampton Wanderers and 56 of which have come for Liverpool.
He will be hopeful of adding to his century between now and the end of the season, but here are Jota's five best goals for the Reds over the years.
ATALANTA 0-5 LIVERPOOL - NOVEMBER 2020
Right, we're already cheating a little bit here.
Jota didn't take much time in announcing himself to Liverpool fans with a flurry of goals shortly after his arrival, and the forward netted his first club hat-trick during a 5-0 demolition of Atalanta in the 2020/21 Champions League group stage.
All three of his strikes were of incredibly high quality and we can't separate them, so we're chucking the lot in.
The first saw Jota use his speed to latch on to Trent Alexander-Arnold's pass and delicately dink over Atalanta goalkeeper Marco Sportiello to put the Reds in front.
The second was a far more assertive effort, Jota collecting a 50-yard pass from Joe Gomez with a wonderful touch on his weaker left foot, before rattling a fierce near-post drive beyond Sportiello to double Liverpool's lead.
Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane both found the back of the net in between Jota's second and third, with the Portugal international securing the match ball by rounding the goalkeeper and rolling a Liverpool fifth into an empty Atalanta net.
MAN UTD 2-4 LIVERPOOL - MAY 2021
Scoring against Manchester United as a Liverpool player is always pretty special and it's something that Jota has managed twice - both coming at Old Trafford.
However, while his second of those efforts came in the fabled 5-0 victory during the 2021/22 season, the finish he produced against the Red Devils the campaign prior was much better.
With Liverpool a goal down, Jota popped up at a crucial moment to draw the Reds level and boost their top four bid, smartly backheeling Nat Phillips' scuffed shot beyond David de Gea.
It was some quick thinking from Jota that grabbed Liverpool a crucial equaliser en route to an important 4-2 victory in front of an empty Old Trafford.
LIVERPOOL 4-0 ARSENAL - NOVEMBER 2021
The majority of Jota's Liverpool goals against Arsenal could make it into this list - of which there have been seven - but we have opted for his excellent effort in a 4-0 victory at Anfield.
The Reds had just taken the lead before the half-time whistle and came flying out of the blocks after the restart, with Jota punishing some sloppy play from his favourite opponents.
Nuno Tavares' pass deep in his own half was easily picked off by the Portuguese, who sat down an Arsenal defender and Aaron Ramsdale before rolling the ball into an empty net.
Salah and Takumi Minamino added some gloss to the scoreline for the Reds, with Jota finishing the 2021/22 campaign with four goals in four clashes with the Gunners.
EVERTON 1-4 LIVERPOOL - DECEMBER 2021
In terms of pure technique, Jota hasn't scored a better goal for Liverpool than his excellent effort against Merseyside rivals Everton during a 4-1 win in 2021.
Liverpool had already put the Toffees to the sword at Goodison Park with three impressive strikes, but Jota's was undoubtedly the pick of the bunch on a memorable trip across Stanley Park.
The Portuguese collected the ball with his back to goal inside the penalty area, flicking it between his legs to make shooting room from a tight angle.
With a swing of the left boot, he fired his shot high above Jordan Pickford, with the Everton stopper unable to react to the venom and precision of Jota's drive.
Much like netting against Man Utd, goals don't come much sweeter than against the Toffees.
LIVERPOOL 4-3 TOTTENHAM - APRIL 2023
It may have not meant a great deal come the end of the season, but there is only one goal that many Liverpool fans will think of when you ask them to picture Jota.
Having raced into a three-goal lead against Tottenham at Anfield in the closing stages of the 2022/23 campaign, Liverpool somehow surrendered their advantage, with Richarlison producing a 93rd-minute equaliser to stun the home crowd.
Fortunately, Spurs' Spursiness was in high performance mode on Merseyside, with Tottenham's Lucas Moura passing the ball straight into Jota's path after Liverpool had launched an aimless ball towards the visitors' defence.
Jota produced an excellent first touch and then a trademark low drive into the far bottom corner - once again with his weaker left - and he was greeted by the frantic fist pumps of an adoring Kop.
The forward pulled out his signature FIFA celebration to crown what was an unbelievable moment in recent Liverpool history, with the Reds securing the strangest of 4-3 victories in the 94th minute.
