3 talking points from Liverpool's 5-1 Europa League win over Toulouse

Liverpool continued their 100% record in the Europa League in emphatic style, as they netted five past Toulouse in what was an incredible attacking performance from start to finish.

The Reds started the game well, with a wonderfully well-taken goal from Diogo Jota early in the first half, but completely lax defending down the other end meant that Toulouse were able to equalise just moments later with a blistering counter-attack.

However, as we've seen so many times this season, when the goal was conceded, Jurgen Klopp's side jumped up a few gears and went into half-time 3-1 up through two immense finishes from Wataru Endo and Darwin Nunez.

The second-half continued where the first left off, with Ryan Gravenberch popping up yet again with a goal so early in his Liverpool career, and who else but Mohamed Salah to come on late in the game and round off a stunning 5-1 victory that really highlighted just how many attacking options the boss has at his disposal this season.

After three wins from three so far in Europe, Liverpool have all-but-confirmed their qualification to the knock-out rounds and all it would take is another win against the French side in the reverse fixture in two weeks time to guarantee Liverpool as winners of the group and send them into the final 16.

With that said, here are three talking points from the game.

MIDFIELD FLOURISHING

Liverpool's midfield rebuild was the talk of the town all summer, but as we begin to approach the winter months, Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai have been making the headlines as the club's new stand-out midfielders.

That's completely understandable, by the way. They both came in for sizeable fees, they have been starting week in, week out and have completely transformative in the Reds' new look midfield.

However, Liverpool's third and fourth summer signings proved today, just as they have all season, that they are no joke either. Both Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch chipped in with goals from midfield today, and my word did they dominate the game.

Starting with the Japanese international, he was simply everywhere. He won almost all of his ground duels, was an interception machine, was always an option for the centre-backs and his perfectly guided header to put Liverpool 2-1 up in the first-half was truly remarkable.

Then we look back at Gravenberch, wow. All I'll say is why on earth did Bayern Munich choose not to play this man? The fact that we signed the 6"3' 21-year-old monster for just £34m is quite frankly a joke.

The Dutchman has played ten games for the club so far this season and he already has two goals and two assists - which actually eclipses both Mac Allister and Szoboszlai.

Despite only actually playing 426 minutes (just over 4.5 full 90s), Gravenberch now has the most goal contributions out of any midfielder at the club. It's safe to say Liverpool have smashed it with their midfield rebuild and the centre of the park is in safe hands for many years to come.

DARWIN WILL BE DARWIN

Alexa, sum up Darwin Nunez in one performance.

I feel like we say this fairly frequently, but if there was ever a game to perfectly show off the Uruguayan's strengths and weaknesses, it was this one.

Starting with the positives, when the ball fell to Liverpool's number nine in the box in the first half, he made no mistake as he absolutely thundered one into the roof of the net to put the Reds 3-1 to the good. He loves a wonderful finish, does Nunez.

Fast forward to the 65th minute - Diogo Jota threads a great ball into the path of the striker, who cuts inside perfectly to set himself one on one with the keeper. There was still a lot to do, but he rounded Toulouse's number one with ease and left himself with a completely open goal.

Now for the negatives, Nunez simply has to be burying that ten times out of ten, but instead he smacks the post against all odds. It seems to be that whenever the striker has any time whatsoever to think about a shot, he fumbles it. Luckily, Gravenberch was there to poke home the rebound.

His overall game is incredible, and he has already shown this season that his finishing can be immaculate, but his focus in front of goal when he's got all the time in the world is definitely something to improve on if Nunez wants to put up big scoring numbers this season.

EUROPEAN DEBUTS

As expected, Klopp fielded a heavily rotated side against Toulouse and with an important Premier League clash with Nottingham Forest just around the corner, who could blame him?

Due to Andy Robertson's unfortunate injury, Kostas Tsimikas has seen himself promoted to Liverpool's starting left-back, so with the Greek international rested for the weekend, a rare opportunity arose for youngster Luke Chambers.

The 19-year-old Englishman not only made his first senior start for the club, but he did so at a packed out Anfield on a European night - talk about pressure!

On the whole, the youngster performed admirably and he should be proud of the fact that he didn't look too out of place amongst his more senior peers.

The only time he was massively caught out was for Toulouse's goal in the first-half, but in all fairness, so was the entire Reds defence.

A quick counter-attack from the French outfit completely caught Chambers off guard, allowing Thijs Dallinga to be picked out on the right flank completely unmarked, before he drove 30 yards and dispatched a cool finish past Caoimhin Kelleher to draw his side level.

Also marking their European debuts were Calum Scanlon and James McConnell, who came on for Chambers himself and Curtis Jones respectively, and while neither youngster had enough time to really shine, they helped get the Reds over the line.

What a night for the trio, and hopefully there will be plenty of more opportunities in this season's cup competitions for them to really demonstrate that they can perform on the big stage.
