FLAWLESS Trent Alexander-Arnold proved his doubters WRONG vs Wolves

Liverpool are now top of the league after a 2-1 victory against Wolves on Saturday evening.

The Reds were far from convincing as they overcame the Premier League bottom side.

Goals from Ibrahima Konate and Mohamed Salah sent Arne Slot’s men to the summit of the table.

The Reds have now won their opening three away games in a Premier League season for just the third time after 2018-19 and 2019-20, as per Liverpoolfc.com.

The head coach guided his side to victory at the Molineux in the Premier League on Saturday evening – to follow up the victories on the road at Manchester United and Ipswich Town in the opening weeks of 2024-25.

Upon reflection, there were potentially more negatives coming from the game than positives.

For large parts of the game, Liverpool were sloppy. In and out of possession with Wolves matching the sheer lack of quality, fortunately for the Anfield side.

The Reds had multiple chances to extend their lead, Salah had a right-footed effort fizz wide of an open net before the Egyptian failed to play a simple ball across to Curtis Jones as the duo beckoned towards the Wolves goal.

We’ve got used to seeing Liverpool win in dominant fashion this far, so to win a game when Slot’s men are miles off their best, may weirdly be the most encouraging thing for the Dutchman.

Trent's solid defensive display

One of the positives was Trent Alexander-Arnold’s defensive performance. Particularly in the first half.

The defender - whose majority of plaudits come for his offensive qualities - was flawless out of possession, especially after picking up a needless booking seven minutes into the game for delaying a Wolves free kick.

No player made more tackles (2) and more ball recoveries (6) than Alexander-Arnold before the interval as he proved to be a bright spark in a dim Reds performance.

The scouser also won 100% of his aerial duels on Saturday evening.
